Former Pershing Sq partner gets boost from Blackstone

After four years as a partner at Pershing Square, Mick McGuire set out to prove that activist investing didn't have to mean large-cap targets. He founded Marcato Capital Management in San Francisco in 2010 with backing from Blackstone Group, applying a rigorous, concentrated approach to smaller companies the market had largely stopped watching.
